Former Group One winning jockey Gary Doughty has had his first metropolitan win as a trainer with Bold Warrior at Ipswich.

Doughty retired from riding 18 years ago after suffering an eye injury in a fall.

He has since been stable foreman for his wife Kelly Doughty but took out his own trainer's licence last month.

Doughty had his first win as a trainer when Natural Force won at the Gold Coast on June 23.

Ridden by Michael Cahill, Bold Warrior ($4.80) also gave his sire Spirit Of Boom his 18th individual winner of the season when he won a 2YO Handicap (1350m) at Ipswich on Wednesday.

"He is a big leggy bloke. I'll send him for a spell and you will see a good horse when he comes back as a three-year-old," Doughty said,

Bold Warrior was bred by Jan Clark who has been a great supporter of The Doughtys.

A a jockey, Gary Doughty is best remembered for his win on 250-1 chance Abaridy in the 1986 Group One Caulfield Guineas.
