Weight no burden for Ashlor at Caulfield

Saturday 30 June 2018, 5:48pm

A huge weight of 63kg has not stopped talented sprinter Ashlor from winning in stylish fashion at Caulfield.

The Dan McCarthy-trained four-year-old enjoyed a box-seat run from the inside barrier in Saturday's Keno Jackpots Handicap (1200m) before jockey Jamie Mott was able to angle into the clear early in the straight.

Despite the big weight, Ashlor ($9) picked up strongly, going on to defeat Call Me Handsome by a length with another half-length to Mr Gustavo third.

"Well done to Dan McCarthy for running the horse in a race he thought he could win with the big weight," Mott said.

Ashlor took his record to eight wins from 18 starts and snapped a run of placings from his previous four starts which had been frustrating for his trainer.
