Kingdom enjoys first English workout

Wednesday 1 May 2013, 12:22pm

Dubai World Cup winner Animal Kingdom has come through his first work-out since arriving in England with flying colours.

The horse is due to have his last race at Royal Ascot in June before being transported to Australia to stand at Arrowfield Stud.

Trained by American Graham Motion, Animal Kingdom is currently residing at David Lanigan's Lambourn stable.

He will run in either the Queen Anne Stakes over a mile (1600m) or the Prince Of Wales's Stakes over 10 furlongs (2000m).

Arrowfield Stud proprietor John Messara is keen for Animal Kingdom to add a win on turf to his resume.

The 2011 Kentucky Derby winner's best performance on turf was his closing second to Wise Dan in last year's Breeders' Cup Mile.

Messara bought a majority shareholding in the 2011 Kentucky Derby winner from United States based Team Valor before Animal Kingdom's World Cup win.

Sheikh Mohammed'a Darley operation bought into the horse after his Dubai win with Messara now holding 50 per cent, Darley 29 per cent and Team Valor 21 per cent.

With Darley entering the partnership, Animal Kingdom will stand the northern hemisphere season at the sheikh's Jonabell Farm in Lexington, Kentucky.
