The Huntress impresses Boss at Caulfield

Saturday 27 April 2013, 3:09pm

Champion jockey Glen Boss insists a Listed win to two-year-old The Huntress at Caulfield on Saturday is just the beginning of a bright future for the lightly-raced filly.

Boss was full of praise for the Mick Kent-trained youngster who backed up a debut win at Sandown 10 days earlier with a one length success in the Listed Cattanach's Jewellers Stakes (1200m).

"She is one you want to really follow," Boss said.

"She really impressed me. I think she's got a lot of upside."

The Huntress drifted from $2.80 to start $3.90 with last start Flemington winner Churchill Dancer starting the $2.90 favourite.

Boss sensed even before the jump that The Huntress had quality on her side and despite the filly becoming unbalanced at the top of the straight when she copped a bump, she regrouped and went on to win.

Tonyboy ($5) came in a length behind with another half-length to Churchill Dancer third.

"I was actually impressed as soon as I got over her neck cantering to the barriers," Boss said.

"She just oozes quality. She's got a very efficient action."

The Huntress will head to the $100,000 Inglis 2YO Challenge (1100m) at Scone on May 17.

Kent's racing manager Craig Arrowsmith said The Huntress was only a late nomination for Saturday's event when entries were extended and they looked for reasons not to accept earlier in the week.

"But she did so well in the stable we had to accept, and it's a great result," he said.
