Josh Parr wants some pointers from fellow jockey Kerrin McEvoy in a bid to lift Albrecht out of a form slump in Saturday's Victory Stakes at Doomben.

Parr has ridden Albrecht numerous times in trackwork at Warwick Farm but the Victory Stakes will be his first ride aboard the colt in a race.

"He looks the type of horse who likes to find his feet off a really hot tempo, show a good change of speed and finish over the top of them," Parr said.

"But I'll have a good chat to Kerrin and see what he thinks is the best game plan along with (trainer) Peter Snowden."

Albrecht showed immense promise last spring, winning the Up And Coming Stakes at Warwick Farm and finishing second to stablemate Epaulette in the Group One Golden Rose at Rosehill.

"I've had a lot to do with him in trackwork and from the first moment we galloped him at Warwick Farm we thought he was a really good horse," Parr said.

"He won his first start at Canterbury in really impressive fashion and there wasn't much between him and Epaulette in the spring but he hasn't quite taken that next step like the other horse has."

The son of Redoute's Choice failed to reproduce his spring form during a three-start autumn campaign in Melbourne which ended with a disappointing 10th to Ferlax in the Group One Australian Guineas at Flemington on March 2.

Albrecht has been freshened up at Darley's Agnes Banks complex since his improved effort to finish fourth to Toydini in the Phar Lap Stakes at Rosehill on March 23.

Snowden says Albrecht will be kept to sprint assignments in Brisbane because he believes the colt failed to cope with being trained as a miler in Melbourne.

Parr will also ride Proverb for Snowden in the Gunsynd Classic (1600m).

"He's been competing against the top class three-year-olds in Sydney and Peter's picked out a really nice for him at Doomben," he said.

Proverb is coming off a sixth placing in the Carbine Club Stakes won by Toydini at Randwick on April 13 but Parr wasn't disappointed with his effort.
