Saga continues for Hulbert training team

The Peter and Will Hulbert training combination is getting used to changing plans with tough mare Saga Miss.

The mare is one of many horses disadvantaged by the closure of Eagle Farm and the Hulberts have been fine-tuning her current campaign to overcome it.

Saga Miss has had three starts at Doomben and is yet to run a place but the Hulberts hope that will change in the Coke Zero Handicap (1615m) on Saturday.

Her Eagle Farm record reads four starts for two wins and a half head second.

Saga Miss's only failure at Eagle Farm was in the Listed Lord Mayor's Cup on a heavy track.

She was set to run over 1600m at Doomben last Saturday but the race was one of those lost to wet weather.

The Hulberts had considered running her at the reschedule race at Ipswich on Wednesday but decided to wait for the weather to continue to dry.

"The funny thing is she is a half sister to Cooroi Chase who loves wet tracks but she can't pick her feet up in it," Peter Hulbert said.

Hulbert said he hopes to build Saga Miss up in distance to 2000m and improve on her Doomben record.

"She has had a throat operation and it seems to have worked. I am keen to get her up in distance but with Eagle Farm closed there is no 1800 metre start in Brisbane," he said.

"It means we have to look to the Sunshine Coast or Gold Coast for an 1800 metre race."

"Then we can look to a 2000 metre race in town which should suit her now."
