Trainer Toby Edmonds believes regally bred mare Clockwork Orange can earn black-type if she strikes the right conditions after she again won at Doomben.

Clockwork Orange ($3.10) won her fourth race in 16 starts when she beat Delightful Miss ($4) by length in Wednesday's Happy New Year Fillies and Mares Hcp (1200m).

There aren't many better bred mares in Australia than Clockwork Orange who is by More Than Ready out of multiple Group One winner Private Steer.

She was bred by Joe Camilleri's Fairway Thoroughbreds and is bound for a career at stud after her racing days.

Edmonds said there had been a suggestion Clockwork Orange, who was originally trained by David Hayes, would go to stud after her last campaign.

"But she had run a couple of good races and her owners were keen to get some black-type with her. She is obviously very well bred and black-type would further boost the value of her offspring," Edmonds said.

"She really needs a wet track and I was happy when Doomben was given out as being soft but it dried out quickly. If she gets a wet track I still hope we might be able to sneak some black-type for her."

Edmonds and jockey Jeff Lloyd had an early double when Dauphin De France ($3.40) continued their great run with Segenhoe Stud syndicates by winning a maiden (1350m).

"He is also well bred being by Zabeel out of Group Three winner Our Joan Of Arc but he has had some tendon problems and is only just coming right," Edmonds said.

Sky Channel presenter Michael Maxworthy found himself in a different situation when a horse he owns, Mr Dumont ($11), won his first race.

Maxworthy was interviewed by fellow Sky presenter Bernadette Cooper much to mirth of trainer Lawrie Mayfield-Smith and his fellow owners.

"Mike has thanked everyone but the Prime Minister," co-owner Paul Alroe said.

Mayfield-Smith said Mr Dumont always travelled well in his races but could get spooked in big fields on occasions.

"He has a bit of ability and I think he can win at even longer," Mayfield Smith said.
