Life On The Wire makes it four on the trot

Saturday 30 December 2017, 3:09pm

Tasmanian galloper Life On The Wire has extended her winning streak to four and remains unbeaten this campaign with a last grasp win at Sandown.

Life On The Wire will now head home following her victory in Saturday's Ladbrokes Money Wire Handicap to be set for a stakes race at Hobart in February.

Ridden by David Pires, Life On The Wire was sent off the $2.50 equal favourite before wearing down co-favourite Moonlover in the final 50m to score by a neck with Abohar ($10) 3-1/4 lengths away third.

Life On The Wire has progressed from victories in Class Two and Class Three company in her home state to success at midweek level at Sandown last month before her win on Saturday.

Trainer Scott Brunton said Life On The Wire would now be set for the Group Three Bow Mistress Trophy on February 9.

"She'll have 10 days off at Tony Carter-Smith's property and then she'll be getting ready for the Bow Mistress at Hobart," Brunton said.

"It's over 1200 metres so we'll have to freshen her right up for it.

"She's a mare that's really starting to put it together now. She's tough, a trier and really chases."

Pires was fined $2000 after pleading guilty to a breach of the whip rules following the mares' win.

He was fined $500 for using the whip in three consecutive strides before the 100m and $1500 for using the whip nine times, four more than allowed, prior to the 100m mark.
