Speediness out to attempt NSW double

Saturday 20 April 2013, 4:51pm

Trainer Colin Scott will return to the scene of his closest brushes with major racing success thanks to the win of Speediness in the Pink Ribbon Cup (1400m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

Scott had been waiting for a sign that Speediness was on the way back to the form that earned him a trip to NSW as a three-year-old in 2011 and again last year.

Speediness finished second in both the Hawkesbury and Scone Guineas as a three-year-old, and was beaten in the latter by the Group One winner Sincero.

He also finished second in last year's Doncaster Prelude at Randwick.

"I've just been hoping to get him back to some sort of form so we can go back up there again," Scott said.

"He's been working well and he looks great, and now he's put it together where it counts."

Scott has the Rowley Mile at Hawkesbury and the Scone Cup as the latest targets for Speediness who is one of only three horses he trains.

Speediness ($10) gave Scott his first stakes winner in Saturday's Listed event, scoring by 1-1/2 lengths from Parthian ($15) with a further length to the favourite Club Command ($1.95) in third.

While Scott is now looking at further success, he almost lost Speediness a year ago when an offer to buy was received from Dubai.

"But he failed the vet and I cheered," Scott said.

"He's part of the family, it would have been tough to see him go."

Speediness also provided jockey Daniel Stackhouse with the second leg of a winning double.

Stackhouse also won on Cosmic Causeway in the Story Landscaping Handicap (1800m).

Stackhouse shared the riding honours with Billy Egan who landed his first double as a senior jockey aboard Vatican in the Vintage Photobooths Plate and Arousing Suspicion in the Abigkid.com Plate.
