Brave Song comeback under threat

Thursday 7 December 2017, 5:58pm

Favouritism is no guarantee Brave Song will return to racing at Rosehill.

Co-trainer Paul Snowden says two factors count against the three-year-old colt resuming in the 2018 ATC Membership Open Now Sprint (1200m).

Drawing the outside barrier is one potential road block while forecast thunderstorms on Friday could also delay a comeback.

"He's drawn 15 so I might wait another day with him and if it's going to be wet, it makes sense maybe just to wait, Snowden said.

Brave Song is the $3.60 favourite as Rosehill was rated in the soft range on Thursday.

Brave Song was runner-up on a soft track when making his debut at Canterbury in July but prefers sounder footing.

Snowden said Brave Song trialled impressively twice last month and now the onus was on him to continue progressing from his maiden win at Canterbury.

"He's a good looking horse now. It's just up to him if he can take the next step ability-wise," he said.

Snowden said the comeback planned for six-year-old gelding Princefamous in the Mark Hughes Foundation (1100m) might also be shelved due to the track condition.

Stablemate Secret Trail is expected to line-up in the same race second-up after the mare opened this campaign with a fourth at Rosehill over 1100m on November 25.
