Nominations extended for G3 Colin Stephen

Monday 18 September 2017, 5:15pm

A small list of nominations for the Colin Stephen Quality makes the Rosehill race a tempting option for Newcastle Cup winner Broadside.

Entries for Saturday's Group Three 2400m-race have been extended after six entries were taken on Monday including the first three horses home in last Friday's Newcastle Cup.

Broadside's win at Newcastle earned him a ballot exemption for Saturday week's Group One Metropolitan (2400m) and on Monday he was given 52kg for the feature staying handicap of the Sydney spring carnival.

"We haven't made that call yet," co-trainer Adrian Bott said about the Colin Stephen.

"It's very tempting to run on Saturday. There's only small nominations and he has come through that race in great order.

"I'm sure it wouldn't do him any harm running again, but at the same time The Metropolitan is probably the main goal of his and he's exempt from ballot from his Newcastle Cup win.

"And he's just been allocated 52 kilos (for the Metropolitan).

"There's a few things to weigh up."
