Williams banned for fall at Flemington

Saturday 16 September 2017, 6:59pm

A remorseful Craig Williams will not appeal a 23 meeting careless riding ban that resulted in the fall of Limestone at Flemington.

Williams was suspended aboard Jukebox in Saturday's Group Two Danehill Stakes after Limestone, ridden by Damian Lane, fell in the concluding stages of the 1200m race.

The ban will see last season's Melbourne premier jockey potentially miss five Group One meetings.

The suspension starts immediately and ends after the Turnbull Stakes meeting at Flemington on October 7.

Williams said in 25 years of riding he had not had one of his fellow riders being dislodged through his carelessness.

"Thankfully Damian Lane and Limestone are OK and I won't be appealing the suspension," Williams said.

Williams won earlier in the meeting aboard Theanswermyfriend in The Sofitel over 1400m.

Dual stakes winning jockey Regan Bayliss had his day soured with a seven meeting ban.

Bayliss who won for Lindsay Park in the Bobbie Lewis Stakes on Redkirk Warrior and the Danehill Stakes on Catchy, was outed for careless riding on runner-up Eclair Sunshine in the Pin And Win Plate.

His suspension starts immediately and he returns on September 24.

Ben Melham received a 12 meeting ban for careless riding on Might Boss in the Pin And Win Plate.

He starts his suspension after Sunday's Geelong meeting and can return for the Group One Moir Stakes meeting at Moonee Valley on September 29.
