Alizee claims black-type win in Tea Rose

Saturday 16 September 2017, 3:58pm

A precise ride from Glyn Schofield has announced Alizee's arrival as a stakes-class filly.

The Godolphin three-year-old stepped up in class to claim the Tea Rose Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.

Darren Beadman, who handled Godolphin's team while head trainer James Cummings was at Flemington, was rapt after she scored the third leg of the Princess series over 1400m by 1-1/4 lengths.

"Seven furlongs was always going to be a bit of a question mark based on breeding but it's great for Sepoy (sire) and she's Astern's half (sister)," Beadman said.

"She got into a nice rhythm, Glyn (Schofield) rode her like she was in a barrier trial, just kept her nice and comfortable.

"It was really important just to keep her balanced. That's what we spoke about before the race, just wait the extra hundred metres. "

Schofield was content to sit back until pushing her home on the straight.

"We decided to wait for her to find her finish in the last 200 and she was too good," he said.

Alizee ($10) overhauled Champagne Cuddles ($3.40) with Cellargirl ($2) a length back in third.

"She's a real confidence filly, she's really maturing every start, every time she comes to the races she takes it all in her stride," Beadman said.

However, he was unsure whether Alizee would step up to the mile in Flight Stakes on September 30.

Schofield was more upbeat about a crack at the Group One race.

"She was strong at the line, I'm suggesting that's the next progression," he said.
