Kendrick after more wins with 3yos

Friday 8 September 2017, 2:17pm

Caloundra trainer Stuart Kendrick has been juggling his team of top quality three-year-olds and hopes to keep the winners coming at Doomben.

Kendrick made a committed effort to buy quality young stock several years ago and it has been paying off as the crop reach three.

He will have the classy Hingus Rose and Beraht in the Three-Year-Old Handicap (1100m) on Saturday but realises the pair face a tough assignment against smart three-year-old Whypeeo.

"He was very impressive last start at the Gold Coast and deserves to be short-priced favourite. But Hingus Rose likes Doomben and has won twice there," Kendrick said.

"Beraht won his maiden last start and is improving."

Kendrick has decided to give his top filly Italia Bella time to mature after she had one run back from a break when third at the Gold Coast two weeks ago.

"It was a very good run behind two top three-year-olds in Whypeeo and Shogun Sun. Italia Bella shows any amount of ability as her other three runs were in stakes company and she performed well in each of them," Kendrick said.

"But I don't want to knock her about with a trip south this spring. She can come back next year and I think she will blossom."

Another stablemate, Rancho Montoya, was an impressive winner at Doomben last week and will have one more Queensland run before a possible trip to Melbourne.

"We had a good talk and decided to give him another run up here at the Sunshine Coast over 1600 metres on September 30," Kendrick said.

"If he races well we will then head to Melbourne for the Caulfield Classic on October 21."
