Tahlia Hope gets back on board at Seymour

Thursday 7 September 2017, 5:11pm

Apprentice Tahlia Hope has made a return to the winner's circle at Seymour after being sidelined with injury.

Hope suffered a fractured ankle when unseated from a horse at Ballarat jump-outs in March.

She was originally expected to be out for 12 weeks but only made her return to riding last week.

Hope guided Small Town Honey to victory for her father Shannon and grandfather Lee.

"I've been waiting for this day to get my first winner back so I can now get back into form and get my eye back in," Hope told broadcaster racing.com.

"It's very hard watching other people ride your horses and the weight got to me, but as I say, it's good to be back."

Tom Stockdale, cousin of fellow apprentice Brandon Stockdale, landed his first winner when For A Song led throughout earlier in the day.

Stockdale began riding last month and Thursday's victory came at his 20th race ride.

"I thought it was taking me a while but everyone kept saying it would come and I'm just finally glad that it's come today," he said.
