Trainer Jarrod McLean fined $13,000

Friday 1 September 2017, 7:22pm

Trainer Jarrod McLean has been fined a total of $13,000 in relation to starting a horse on two separate occasions when veterinary reports confirmed it had had corticosteroid injections within eight clear days of racing.

Stewards have disqualified the McLean-trained Wee Frankie from his eighth placing in a race at Sandown on April 27, 2016 and his second placing in a highweight race at Warrnambool on March 17 this year.

Stewards found Wee Frankie had been administered an intra-articular treatment of Kenacort A10 in the eight clear days before a race at Sandown in April last year, which is against the rules.

They also found the gelding had been injected with Triamolone Forte (a corticosteroid preparation) during the eight clear days before the race at Warrnambool.

McLean was fined $5000 on each of those two charges after pleading guilty.

He was also fined a further $3000 for failing to record treatments of medication, specifically corticosteroids, he administered to Wee Frankie on March 10, April 6 and May 4 this year.
