Roomooz beats Tulip in Moonee Valley photo

Tony McEvoy says he's extremely proud of filly Roomooz after her narrow first-up victory at Moonee Valley.

Roomooz took out Saturday's Johnnie Walker Plate (1200m) and McEvoy is now eyeing stakes races with the daughter of Fastnet Rock.

Ridden by Luke Currie, Roomooz ($7) held on to win by a nose from the $2.25 favourite Tulip with True Excelsior ($15) two lengths away third.

McEvoy hopes Roomooz can be one the better performed three-year-old fillies at the end of the spring, but is expecting further improvement into her four-year-old year.

"I've had a really high regard of her for a long time," McEvoy said.

"What I was asking her to do in the autumn was a touch soon but when they've got such ability you press on if they're sound and well like she was.

"I thought she had improved tremendously through her break.

"She got a little lost in front there today but the formline is extremely good.

"That was a cracking fillies race and I'm extremely proud of her."

With the scratching of Madeenety, McEvoy asked Currie to ride the filly closer to the speed.

He said he didn't want Currie to be fighting with the filly at the back of the field in a slowly run race.

McEvoy intends returning to Moonee Valley with Roomooz on September 9 for the Listed Atlantic Jewel Stakes before the Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m) at Caulfield on October 1 and her main aim, the Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield on October 14.
