Jorda returns to action at Rosehill

Friday 25 August 2017, 5:19pm

Jorda will make her long-awaited return to racing at Rosehill as Godolphin unleash another group of promising three-year-olds.

The filly made an impressive start to her career when she claimed the Listed Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) in October but was held back and only returned to the barrier trials last month.

She won her first trial at Randwick on July 24 and then showed enough in her next trial at the same course on August 8 to justify inclusion in Saturday's Group Three San Domenico Stakes (1100m).

"She's an exciting filly if she's able to make that step up in maturity," Godolphin head trainer James Cummings said.

"The stable was very patient with her and hopefully we get to see the fruits of that sort of patience at the weekend."

Jorda has drawn handily in barrier two and will carry 54kg with Glyn Schofield to ride.

Marsupial lines up for the first time since a sixth in the Group Three Schweppervescence (1400m) closed off his maiden preparation in March.

Fellow three-year-old Marsupial also made a winning start to his career in January when he beat Golden Slipper runner-up Frolic by 2-1/4 lengths but his best performance since was fourth in the Group Three Black Opal.

He will run in a Benchmark 78.

"He's a horse on the cusp of being a black-type horse for us this campaign and into the future," Cummings said.

"It will be an interesting test for him to be muscling up against more experienced rivals."

Godolphin has two contenders in the Group Three Ming Dynasty Quality (1400m), Animalia and Astoria.

Animalia, who won over 1600m at Gosford in July, is also listed in a Class Two Handicap at Newcastle and Cummings said he might go for the "easier option".

Astoria resumes after finishing 11th in the Group One Inglis Sires' Produce Stakes (1400m) in April.
