Arbeitsam wins Listed Rowley Mile

Thursday 24 August 2017, 5:13pm

Arbeitsam has continued his winning winter form, claiming his biggest victory yet in the Listed Rowley Mile at Hawkesbury.

Ridden by Tim Clark in Thursday's feature, Arbeitsam ($1.40 fav) assumed his customary role in front and held his ground over Kingsguard ($14) and Reiby The Red ($21) who tried to pressure him mid-race.

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained four-year-old was having the seventh start of a preparation which may not be over yet.

His campaign began on June 3 and he has racked up four wins and two seconds.

"We are thinking about backing him up in the Wyong Cup but we are mindful of how long he has been up this campaign," Bott told Sky Thoroughbred Central.

"It was a good effort dropping back in trip (from 1800m). It showed his versatility.

"I'm delighted for the horse and his owners Dynamic Syndications."

The Listed Wyong Gold Cup (2100m) is on Friday week.

Clark said although there was some pressure from the placegetters, he was in control.

"He always feels like he's got a bit more to give," he said.

"He really dug deep.

"To win three Saturday races and a Listed race, it's a remarkable job by Gai and Adrian."

Local trainer Brad Widdup notched a milestone double at the meeting with Dancers and Workdrinks both winning maidens.

A former Godolphin foreman, Widdup now trains mainly for Damion Flower and welcomed his first winner with his first starter, Junglized, at Canberra on May 26.

His Hawkesbury double takes his tally to 10.
