Jockey Tom Sadler makes his return to race riding at Sale ahead of a move to Sydney.

Sadler rides for his two main supporters in Melbourne on Thursday, his Caulfield-based trainer father John and Cranbourne's Greg Eurell before he packs his bags on Sunday and moves north to the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott stable.

His last ride was at Flemington on July 8 when he finished second aboard Galaxy Raider but incurred a one month suspension.

The 22-year-old is looking forward to the challenge ahead and is preparing for some hard work.

Sadler said he had been riding work at Flemington for Waterhouse and had been offered rides, but because of suspensions had only been able to take one mount, partnering Scholarly to success at Warrnambool in June.

"I think she enjoys the feedback I was giving, going into a bit more depth," Sadler said.

"When I met with her I didn't know what to expect and what was put on the table was more than I expected.

"After talking to a few people I thought it was something I had to do.

"It's very daunting because it's going to be very much make or break.

"It's something that you don't want to think about further down the track and wish you had done."

Sadler got Waterhouse to speak to his father explaining what was expected and John Sadler said the move was an excellent opportunity.

Tom Sadler hopes to follow Blake Shinn and Nash Rawiller who moved to Sydney to ride for Waterhouse and have since gone on to become star jockeys.

Sadler hopes going to Sydney as the Melbourne spring carnival begins will get him noticed and give him opportunities in town.

Most of all he wants to make it work with Waterhouse.

"She likes making you a little project of hers and if it works out it will be a good result," he said.
