Elouera defies pattern to win at Rosehill

Saturday 12 August 2017, 5:01pm

On a day suiting horses up on the speed, trainer Robert Price has stuck to his guns with Elouera at Rosehill for a winning result.

Price, who trains in partnership with his son Luke on the NSW South Coast, has established a pattern with the mare to get her back in the field where she is comfortable.

Kathy O'Hara had Elouera ($31) worse than midfield in Saturday's Clubs NSW Handicap (1400m) and produced her late to get her home by a short neck over Faith's Encore ($4.60), with Prada Miss ($12) a short head further back in third.

"It's taken us a while to work her out," Price said.

"It was a brave effort to ride her back today when the winners were all on-speed.

"She is a horse who came from Gai (Waterhouse) and it's well known Gai likes her horses on the speed but we have worked out that doesn't suit her."

Before Saturday, Elouera had won two country races at Goulburn but she showed she was up to metropolitan class with a close third at Rosehill two weeks ago.

"Her last couple of starts have been good," O'Hara said.

"You have to ride her that way and she relaxes perfectly.

"It was a big effort and the credit goes to Robert and Luke."
