A strong Sunshine Coast barrier trial win has thrown three-year-old Let's Party Marty into the spotlight as he prepares to make his debut at Doomben.

The David Vandyke-trained colt will be having his first start against a strong field of three-year-olds over 1200m on Saturday.

With the scratching of Cabeirian, Let's Party Marty has got a run as the first emergency.

Let's Party Marty won a trial at the Sunshine Coast on August 1 the same day his Group One-winning stablemate Yankee Rose also won her heat.

Let's Party Marty ran the second-fastest time of the day for 850m trials but his final 600m time of 34 seconds was the fastest of all heats.

It was an impressive effort for an unraced horse who wasn't knocked about in the trial.

Vandyke said he had a good opinion of Let's Party Marty who had taken a while to get to the races.

"We could have looked for a maiden at the provincials but Saturday's Doomben race looks a nice one for him," Vandyke said.

"But it has turned out to be a strong race."

The Toby Edmonds-trained duo of Whypeeo and I Am Impinge are the market leaders at $2.90 and $4.80 with Let's Party Marty an $11 chance.

Tegan Harrison made the trip to Caloundra to ride Let's Party Marty in the trial and retains the mount on Saturday.
