Premier's Cup Prelude next for Loyalty Man

Tuesday 8 August 2017, 4:42pm

Loyalty Man is yet to break through for a win this campaign but will have a couple more chances in Sydney before attention turns to a longer-range target.

Trained by Mike Moroney who operates stables at Flemington and Randwick, Loyalty Man is scheduled to run in Saturday's Premier's Cup Prelude (1800m) at Rosehill with the plan to progress to the Premier's Cup (1900m) two weeks later.

Loyalty Man has had four starts this campaign including a last-start second over 1800m at Randwick where he rallied over the final stages before going down by a head to Sound Proposition.

His only other start in Sydney was a win at Canterbury in December last year.

"He's got this run and probably one more up there and then he'll probably go to the paddock," Moroney said.

"I'm probably a bit surprised he hasn't won one yet this preparation. He has run good races and had two seconds but just hasn't won one."

Moroney says the long-range aim is the Magic Millions race day at the Gold Coast in January.

Loyalty Man contested the $1 million Magic Millions Cup (1400m) in January this year, running 10th, beaten less than two lengths after a slow start.

Moroney is looking at the Magic Millions Trophy instead this season.

"He'll more than likely run in the 2200-metre race there," Moroney said.

"He ran in the 1400 this year but this time we'll probably aim him for the staying race."
