Jordan Turner in first Flemington success

Saturday 5 August 2017, 2:37pm

At his second attempt at breaking into Melbourne riding ranks, Perth apprentice Jordan Turner has won his first race at Flemington.

Riding the Brent Stanley-trained Red Alto, Turner guided the stayer to victory over the straight 1200m course in The Stayers Lounge Handicap on Saturday.

Easy in the betting from $15 out to $21, Red Alto scored by a length from Lord Von Costa ($5.50) with the $2.70 favourite Hay Bale a short-half-head away third.

Turner is on his second trip to the Flemington stables of Leon and Troy Corstens.

The 18 year-old transferred to Melbourne late last year and was enjoying a good run before a trackwork fall in February left him sidelined with a broken shoulder.

"I've come back and been here a month giving it another crack," Turner said.

"I've got a 1.5 kg claim and I'm hoping to lose that while I'm in Melbourne."

Turner said he's appreciative of the father-and-son training team' allowing him the opportunity of riding trackwork for different stables.

He spends one day a week travelling to Sutton Grange, near Bendigo, to ride work for Stanley.
