Meagher Racing hopes to get its new Victorian venture off to a flying start when Savanna Amour contests the Group Three Bletchingly Stakes at Sandown.

Senior trainer John Meagher is returning home and setting up a base at Mornington while his eldest son Chris has been called home to Australia to take charge of the Brisbane stable.

That leaves Meagher's youngest son Daniel in Singapore where he has been training at Kranji since late last year.

John Meagher said he had leased boxes at Mornington and was looking to build his numbers.

Savanna Amour is down from Queensland for the spring with her aim being the Myer Classic at Flemington in November.

"We'll program a nice campaign for her through to that race," Meagher said.

Savanna Amour is one of 11 original runners from last week's Bletchingly Stakes that was rescheduled to Sandown on Sunday after the last five races from the Caulfield meeting were called off because of strong wind.

The delay in running means Savanna Amour meets her rivals worse at the weights.

As a three-year-old filly at Caulfield she was to carry 56kg, but turning four on August 1 means she will now carry 56.5kg under the weight-for-age conditions.

Meagher doesn't see that as being a disadvantage but admitted it wasn't ideal.

Savanna Amour is the only mare in Sunday's line-up.

"She's ready and she'll take a nice race," Meagher said.

"Some of the best horses in Australia have been mares and if she's up to them, she's up to them."

Savanna Amour was successful at Caulfield during the autumn with Joao Moreira on board and hasn't raced since winning the Gold Coast Guineas in May.

She won a trial at Doomben last month before making her way to Melbourne.

Meagher said she had a gallop at Sandown on Wednesday.

"It was foggy and I only got to see the last furlong, but it was a good working gallop," he said.

Savanna Amour has met with early support in Sunday's race to be on the third line of betting at $6 behind the $5 favourite Ability and $5.50 second choice Lankan Rupee.
