Tough gelding Spur Le Joeur gets the chance to prove he is more than a one-track wonder when he steps out at Doomben.

Spur Le Joeur has won seven races and all of those victories have been on the spacious Sunshine Coast track.

He has never won at Doomben and been placed only three times in 10 attempts at the track.

Despite that record, he is one of four horses under double figures for Saturday's Jockeys Celebration Open Handicap (1615m).

Trainer Stuart Kendrick has always had an opinion of Spur Le Joeur who has won $244,000 prize money.

"I have to admit if this race was at the Sunshine Coast he would be the favourite. He does seem to go best there," Kendrick said.

"But I am expecting him to race well in what isn't an overly tough race.

"Last time he had a bad barrier and got too far back. Then he got into trouble on the home turn so you can forget his last start.

"He is much better drawn on Saturday and he should be able to race closer to what appears a solid early pace,"

Although the race has been scaled up by 4.5 kg, Spur Le Joeur will still carry the minimum after premier apprentice Tiffani Brooker's 1.5kg claim.

"He also does look well off at the weights here. If he is ever going to win away from the Sunshine Coast this could be it," Kendrick said.

He is also confident Patronizing can race well in the UBET Handicap (1350m).

"It was a good win at Ipswich last time. He needs the pace on early and he should get it in this race," Kendrick said.

Kendrick had his best season since coming south from Mackay five years ago, winning the Sunshine Coast premiership and finishing third on the state premiership with 88 overall winners.

"The thing is to build on that this season," he said.
