Radio appeal raises $30,000 for NJT

Wednesday 2 August 2017, 8:10am

A radio appeal to raise funds for the National Jockeys Trust has reached almost $30,000.

The appeal was run by Brisbane-based RadioTAB which covers Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory.

Brisbane's racing media were joined on Monday by premier Brisbane trainer Tony Gollan and Sky Racing's Bernadette Cooper to head the appeal which easily passed its $25,000 target.

There were interviews with many racing industry participants who had been helped by the NJT including Ben Saunders and Wade Clasohm who were both left paralysed after a trackwork accident at Toowoomba,

Grant Bell, the father of the late jockey Tim Bell, Peter Montgomerie, the father of the late Simone Montgomerie, and Cheree Gask, who lost part of a leg in a fall, were also among the guests.

The appeal was backed by wagering company UBET which pledged $10,000.

UBET CEO Brendan Parnell said the success of the appeal again showed racing people would support their own who were less fortunate.

"It just goes to show how the racing industry comes together to support its own," Parnell said.

The chairman National Jockeys Trust, Paul Innes, said the RadioTAB Appeal had been an incredible success.

"The National Jockeys Trust is extremely humbled by the support from RadioTAB listeners," he said.
