Ten race card for Flemington season opener

Monday 31 July 2017, 1:48pm

An extra race has been added to each of the new season's first two city meetings in Melbourne after the Bletchingly Stakes program was abandoned midway because of dangerous winds.

The Group Three Bletchingly Stakes (1200m), one of the races lost on Saturday, has been added to Sunday's program at Sandown which also features the Grand National Hurdle and Crisp Steeplechase.

A lucrative four-year-old open handicap (2000m) has been added to Saturday's Flemington meeting which will now feature 10 races.

The four-year-old handicap at Flemington is a $120,000 race and also carries a Super VOBIS bonus of $30,000 and a VOBIS Gold bonus worth $20,000.

Nominations for nine of the 10 Flemington races closed on Monday but entries for the additional race are open until noon on Tuesday.

Entries for Sandown also close on Tuesday.
