Cost benefit analysis for More To Gain

Friday 28 July 2017, 5:14pm

After enduring several frustrating weeks waiting for Sydney's weather to provide a suitable track to facilitate More to Gain's return to racing, co-trainer Amanda Turner may have to run him at Rosehill.

The four-year-old, who has battled foot issues for most of his racing life, prefers the sting out of the ground but Turner and training partner Mauro Poletti are keen to test him in Saturday's Benchmark 85 Handicap (1350m) although the track is in the good range.

"I'm desperate to give him a run.The situation he's got to now is he's just so well and ready to race," Turner said.

"We've got dates written down and all that sort of stuff but we really have to get this one run into him and work out what's happening after that."

Another benchmark race at Randwick next Saturday was also an option but Turner was reluctant to keep him cooped up for another week.

"He's like a naughty kid. He's always doing something silly. He just needs to race and that will settle him down a bit," she said.

Although More To Gain is proven on a good track with two wins and three placings from six starts, his history of foot soreness has forced Turner to err on the side of caution.

"It's just one of those things where it's just got to be right," she said.

Turner walked the track on Friday and was hoping rain would materialise, although it is not predicted until Monday.

She said she would make a final decision on race morning.
