Tony Gollan hits Queensland ton

Wednesday 26 July 2017, 4:51pm

Miss Arabella has given Tony Gollan his 100th Queensland winner and a chance to snatch the state trainers' premiership.

Gollan has a high opinion of Miss Arabella ($3.20) who stormed home to win a maiden (1350m) at Ipswich on Wednesday.

He trails Toowoomba-based Ben Currie who has won 102-1/2 races in Queensland this season to lead the state premiership.

There are four meetings left but Gollan concedes Currie will be hard to catch.

"The way things have fallen I have only three runners at Doomben on Saturday and I think Ben has six," Gollan said.

"I have a few chances at Gatton on Friday and I might have a couple of runners at Beaudesert on Saturday and Caloundra on Sunday. But I think Ben will probably have runners at those tracks as well."

Gollan has already won the Brisbane metropolitan premiership by a big margin with Miss Arabella's win being his 77th of the season.

"I think we are on 108 winners on all Australian tracks and when you can claim that, it has been a good season. It is especially since the problems Eagle Farm trainers have had but now we are finally settled in our new complex watch out for us all," Gollan said.

Miss Arabella is a filly by High Chaparral out of the Pentire mare Pentacity who won good quality middle distance races in Brisbane a decade ago.

"We bought Miss Arabella after she was passed in at the Sydney Easter Sales and then her owners decided to lease her out for her current campaign," Gollan said.

Apprentice Tiffani Brooker also brought up a milestone when she won a Class Four race on well backed Bold Gypsy ($3.50).

It was her 50th metropolitan winner for the season making her the first female apprentice to achieve the milestone in Brisbane.

"It was a credit to all the trainers and owners who have supported me," Brooker said.
