Canterbury open for spring training

Wednesday 26 July 2017, 1:19pm

Trainers will be able to use the Canterbury course proper for morning track gallops on selected days as horses begin their Sydney spring Carnival campaigns.

The Australian Turf Club said the course proper would be available next Tuesday for horses nominated for Missile Stakes day on August 5.

The course will also be available on August 22 for horses nominated on the San Domenico Stakes program four days later at Rosehill.

ATC executive general manager of racing James Heddo said the initiative was another part of the club's strategy to maximise the use of Sydney's racing and training assets.

"We have a fantastic facility at Canterbury Park and believe offering the course proper wherever possible for track work in the lead up to Spring will assist an even better preparation for all horses,'' he said.

Canterbury will also host the new season's official two-year-old barrier trials on September 18 and the William Inglis and Son breeze-ups on September 7 and 8.
