Stockdale all bandaged up and ready to go

Thursday 20 July 2017, 12:00pm

Apprentice Brandon Stockdale says a mishap with a bucket of boiling water shouldn't stop him from riding at Flemington.

Stockdale had to forego five rides at Sandown after scalding his arm in the jockeys' room on Wednesday.

After riding in the opening race, Stockdale, who was suffering from a head cold, tried to clear congestion by placing his head over the bucket and a towel over his head.

But while talking to Racing Victoria's apprentice coach Darren Gauci he spilt the water on his forearm.

"As soon as it happened my skin starting peeling away," Stockdale told RSN927.

"They ended up giving me the green whistle and I was out to it for a bit.

"Thank god they gave me that because I was in a bit of pain."

Stockdale was taken to hospital where the burn was bandaged.

It cost Stockdale a winning double on Wednesday and forced the apprentice to forego rides at Sale on Thursday and Geelong on Friday.

He hopes to gain a clearance to ride at Flemington on Saturday where he has four mounts.

"It feels pretty good at the moment and I think I should be right to ride on Saturday," he said.

Two of his more fancied his rides are Dulverton ($4.60) in the Wilson One Medic Rising Stars Final and $4.60 second favourite Ruettiger in the KA Morrison Handicap.
