Chris Munce gets Doomben double

Wednesday 19 July 2017, 2:11pm

Trainer Chris Munce has cemented his association with trail blazing Australian syndicator Shelley Hancox with two-year-old Johnny Whitesox bringing up an early Doomben double for the stable.

Johnny Whitesox ($6) sat outside the leader and came away in the straight for an impressive win in Wednesday's Intrust Super Two-Year-Old Hcp (1200m).

Munce had earlier won the maiden (2200m) for another big owners' group, Dynamic Syndications, with Asalwas ($10).

Hancox has been successfully syndicating horses in Australian for more than 30 years and she currently has five with Munce.

The former top jockey is making a great fist of training and his double on Wednesday took him to equal seventh on the metropolitan premiership with 25 winners in only his second full year as a trainer.

"It has been a good season and things are looking up with the support of people, such as Shelley and Dynamic Syndications," Munce said.

"We are now in our new stables at Eagle Farm and things are going pretty well."

Premier Brisbane trainer Tony Gollan also produced a juvenile winner, Rock 'N' Summer, in the Keno 20 Hcp (1200m).

"He is very well bred being by Fastnet Rock and is raced on lease from Ron Gilbert's Highgrove Stud," Gollan said.

"I think you will see a really nice horse once we put blinkers on him.

"He is a big headed horse and I mean that literally, so I won't be taking him to the show next month. But he can gallop."
