Brisbane trainer Kelly Schweida will look for races to boost Shogun Sun's prize money in an attempt to get him qualified for the Golden Rose in Sydney.

Shogun Sun resumed over 1200 metres at the Sunshine Coast on Saturday, coming from the tail of the field to finish second to Bring It Home Pop after jumping from barrier 10 of 11.

Schweida has an opinion of the gelding and is keen to get him to the Group One Golden Rose at Rosehill on September 23.

"It was a very good run. He was three and four deep at the tail of the field but made up a huge amount of ground in the straight," Schweida said.

"With a good barrier he would have been closer and it might have been different."

"The winner is pretty smart and the time was virtually the same as in the Class Six later in the day."

Shogun Sun's prize money now stands at $35,000 and he will need to increase that to make the Golden Rose field.

"I am sure Shogun Sun will be well suited by the 1400 metres of the Rose and you don't often get to run in $1 million races," Schweida said.

Stablemate Oink was unplaced in the race last year and finished third in a 1000m-race at Saturday's Sunshine Coast meeting with Schweida still undecided about his ideal distance.

Schweida did make it to the winner's circle at the Sunshine Coast with Stella Ombra who also scored at Randwick two starts ago.

"He will probably have one more start this campaign as he has done a lot of travelling this time including a win in Sydney," he said.
