Hippo gracious following first city treble

Saturday 15 July 2017, 5:42pm

On a day when leading Sydney jockey Hugh Bowman failed to get a win at Rosehill, the unassuming Adam Hyeronimus further made his claim for more work in the big smoke.

His ride on roughie Hunter Jack in the last race on Saturday completed the 27-year-old's first city treble and took him to 22 metropolitan wins for the year.

It followed wins with Pick Me Up and Insensata and continued Hyeronimus' knack of running in well-priced winners in the city.

Punters who have put $10 on each of Hyeronimus' Sydney rides this season are up more than $500.

But the man himself is ignoring talk that he's underrated.

"I don't read too much into it. I'm just happy to get the rides and do my best every time I go out there," he said.

He credits Tim Martin, who trains Hunter Jack and Pick Me Up, with teaching him more about the horse every day.

"He's an incredible horseman and helped me out with teaching me more about the animal," Hyeronimus said.

"It's hard to explain what he's got because not many people have it ... full credit to him."

Hyeronimus has notched up 53 winners nationally at an envious strike rate of one in six.

Meanwhile, Bowman made a massive swing and miss in his attempt to extend his lead over Brenton Avdulla in the Sydney premiership.

Avdulla, who returns to racing on Sunday after sitting out the past two city meetings due to suspension, sits just half a win adrift of Bowman.

Bowman's only placing of the day came in the first race when Calculated ran second after failing to overcome the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Siege of Quebec.
