After being the bridesmaid on countless occasions, Roly Poly has come of age in the Group One Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket.

Trained by Aidan O'Brien and ridden in front by Ryan Moore, the 6-4 favourite kicked clear to defeat the previously unbeaten Wuheida in the final stages of Friday's 1600m-race to score her first win for 12 months.

"She did it well and she is a good filly," part-owner Michael Tabor said.

"She has had some near-misses, but she is a tough, hardy filly. She is small, but she battles well and this surface really suits her well. We couldn't be more pleased with her."

O'Brien and Moore also struck with Clemmie in the Group Two Duchess of Cambridge Stakes (1200m).

Clemmie, a sister to last season's champion two-year-old Churchilll, was cut from 16-1 to 7-1 for next year's Thousand Guineas by Coral and into 8-1 by Ladbrokes.

"I'd say she is the best (two-year-old) filly we've seen out this year," Moore said.

"She's won a six-furlong Group Two in July, she's got the pedigree to do it and she's got the trainer. She's got every chance."
