Claim to help Revolving Door at Caulfield

Clinton McDonald has called on apprentice Brandon Stockdale to ride Revolving Door and is banking on his claim to be a telling factor at Caulfield.

Revolving Door returned from a spell as a gelding and won first-up at Moonee Valley last month before being overhauled in the final strides of a 1400m race at Caulfield.

He sticks to the 1400m on his home track in Saturday's TAB Supports Jockeys Trust Handicap for three-year-olds, only this time McDonald has opted to use the 3kg claiming apprentice to offset the gelding's 58kg.

It means he meets My Paisaan, who beat him by a half-head last start, 4kg better after Stockdale's claim and also meets the last-start third placegetter Enigman on better terms.

"He's going really well and certainly hasn't gone backwards since his last start," McDonald said.

"He strips fitter again for Saturday and he gets in well with the claim and hopefully Brandon can give him a good ride.

"He gets in with 55 (kg) after the claim and hopefully that makes the difference at the end."

Revolving Door has only won two of his 11 starts but has competed at a high level during his two and three-year-old seasons.

He was placed in the Group Two VRC Sires' Produce Stakes as a juvenile and finished a close second to Sacred Elixir in the Group Three Caulfield Guineas Prelude last spring.

After he was unplaced on his return from a spell in Adelaide in March the decision was made to geld Revolving Door.

"He's always been a horse with really good ability and gelding him has helped him become a consistent horse," McDonald said.

"He took a lot of work to get fit as a colt. He was a big horse, 570 kilograms, and now he's about 545. It has stripped him down a bit more and he's more of an athlete."

Revolving Door is being shaded for favouritism by Enigman who has premiership-chasing Craig Williams aboard.
