Joao Moreira sets another Hong Kong record

Monday 10 July 2017, 7:02am

Jockey Joao Moreira has notched another milestone in Hong Kong, surpassing his own record for the number of winners in a season.

The expat Brazilian equalled his last season tally of 168 at Sha Tin on Sunday aboard Fantastic Show and set the new mark with victory on Sunny Win.

After setting records in Singapore, Moreira established a new mark in Hong Kong of 145 in 2014/15 before smashing it in 2015/16.

"It has been a very special season," Moreira told the HK Jockey Club.

"It means a lot. It means that the hard work that I have put in this season has all been worth it.

"Records are there to be broken so it's nice to get to do it again, although I'm sure there will be someone who comes along and breaks my records one day."

Former Sydney trainer John Size, who set a training record with his 92nd winner on June 26, added another to his total with a win by Giddy Giddy.

There are two meetings left in the Hong Kong season.
