Walker returns to trackwork after injury

Tuesday 4 July 2017, 1:24pm

Jockey Michael Walker has returned to trackwork for the first time in more than four months after his latest injury absence.

Walker has not ridden in a race since mid-February when he needed to be helped off a horse post-race after his back seized up.

The jockey has since undergone an operation on his back and surgery on his hip and was back at trackwork on Tuesday morning.

"It went really well," Walker told RSN927.

"I did five gallops for Mick Price at Caulfield. It was just a light morning. I could have ridden jump-outs and a bit more but I didn't want to push my body too hard on the first day."

Last week Walker said he would be guided by how his body felt in the first couple of weeks of trackwork as to when he would make a return to race riding, which could be as early as late next week.
