Breeding pays off for Steve Tregea

Sunday 2 July 2017, 5:06pm

Steve Tregea's long-range plan to stock up on well bred broodmares has continued to pay dividends with Kimash producing another winner for him.

Tregea breeds, owns and trains many horses through his Windemere Stud operation on the Darling Downs.

He is having a good season with horses he bred including the Fred Best Classic winner Niccanova.

On Saturday Tregea produced another handy three-year-old, Prioritise, who made it three wins from his past four starts at the feature Sunshine Coast meeting.

Prioritise is by Rothesay out of Kimash making him a full brother to Tregea's handy mare Kim Noir.

"Kimash is very well bred being by a Melbourne Cup winner in Jeune out of a half sister to Snippets which is why we bought her. We have got a few winners for ourselves," Tregea said.

"But her best was probably a horse which we sold as a yearling and raced in Hong Kong and won several races."

"He was by Danewin and raced as Dane Babylon in Australia (Dane Patrol in Hong Kong). He ran second to Denman in a race at Flemington back in 2009."

Prioritise will now be set for another QTIS bonus three-year-old race before the season is finished.
