Mount Panorama revved up for Civic duty

Friday 30 June 2017, 4:49pm

It might look like a mountain to climb, but Sydney trainer Gary Moore believes black-type regular Mount Panorama will not be out of place in the Listed Civic Stakes at Rosehill.

Mount Panorama is the rank outsider but Moore continues to rate the three-year-old who stepped up to Group company at just his second start.

Although Mount Panorama has only won once when he scored at the Gold Coast in May, Moore thought a second victory was not far off as he backs up from a deceptive eighth in the Listed Daybreak Lover Plate at Doomben on June 10.

"His last run was fantastic," Moore said.

"He was back a long way in a slowly run race and finished off in style. He was only beaten by a small margin (2-1/4 lengths)."

The Civic Stakes (1350m) is Mount Panorama's 10th black-type race, with a third behind Astern and Defcon in last year's Group Two Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) his best result so far.

"If he puts his mind on the job I think he'll run a very good race," Moore said.

"He's the class horse of the race. He's just been out of form."

Moore has no concerns about the soft track.

"He's by Sebring. They seem to like it soft so I don't think that'll be an issue," he said.

Moore also has Classic Uniform ($26) resuming in the Schweppes Handicap (1100m) but thought the pace would be a bit sharp for the four-year-old gelding as he eyes a mile this campaign.
