Weather dictates Miss Iano Flemington run

Wednesday 21 June 2017, 4:40pm

Trainer Mark Webb would like to see some rain ahead of Miss Iano's attempt at a fourth straight victory.

After three wins on wet tracks at Pakenham, Miss Iano is scheduled to run in the Barwon South West Region Handicap (1100m) at Flemington on Saturday.

The track was in the good range at acceptance time on Wednesday while showers are forecast for Saturday.

"I'm not 100 per cent sure I'm going to run her yet," Webb said.

"It all depends on whether the track comes up wet or not.

"She's a smart enough filly but she definitely grows a leg on wet going."

Webb has been wary of running the filly on firm ground after Miss Iano jarred up when fourth on a good track at Ballarat in April.

Miss Iano began her sequence of three on the trot following that run.

Webb said if Miss Iano doesn't start at Flemington she could line up at Caulfield on Saturday week, or even head to Sydney.

"I was nearly going to take her to Sydney and that's an option next week with the rain they've had up there while there's a three-year-old fillies race at Caulfield next week," he said.

After carrying 60kg in her latest victory Webb likes the fact Miss Iano drops 6kg on Saturday where she tackles open three-year-old company.

"Taking on the boys is a bit of query so that's why we've got the fillies race next week as a back-up," he said.

Webb trained Miss Iano's dam Miss Panama who had her career cut short through injury and is pleased to be training the first of her progeny.

He said he has been allowed to take Miss Iano along slowly by owner Ian Bell.

"She was a bit small, being the first foal, so we took our time with her," Webb said.

"But she's developed into a lovely filly.

"This filly can keep winning if she keeps finding wet tracks."
