Dwayne Dunn wins on return from suspension

Wednesday 21 June 2017, 3:23pm

Dwayne Dunn has returned to the saddle with a winner at Bendigo after an enforced winter break.

Dunn steered Takemehomemister to victory in Wednesday's 2YO Handicap (1100m), his first race ride since May 27.

"It's my first ride for three weeks. I haven't been on a horse," Dunn told broadcaster Racing.com.

The multiple Group One-winning jockey was suspended for 24 meetings for an incident in a race at Geelong last month in which Regan Bayliss suffered a fractured wrist.

The Hawkes Racing-trained Takemehomemister was having his second start and won by a long neck over debutant Evolutionist.

The race also featured the debut of $1.5 million yearling Plato who finished another three-quarters of a length away third.

Plato, who started the $2.20 favourite, is a half-brother to 2015 Golden Slipper winner Vancouver.

Dunn believes Takemehomemister still has maturity to come and will be better as a three-year-old over 1400m to 1600m.

The reigning Scobie Breasley medallist, Dunn sits third in this season's Melbourne jockeys' premiership on 47 wins and returns to city racing on Saturday with eight rides at Flemington.
