The Queensland Racing Integrity Commission has released figures it says shows the new appeals system is working with 86 cases resolved in the first year of operation.

QRIC introduced a new internal review system for Queensland codes of racing in August last year.

QRIC Commissioner Ross Barnett pointed to the success of the new role when he officially named Kane Ashby as QRIC internal reviewer.

Ashby had been acting in the role since the Commission commenced in July last year.

Barnett said the independent role of internal reviewer was integral to the integrity of the Commission's decision making process.

"Mr Ashby oversees QRIC Stewards' race day decisions, inquiries conducted into prohibited substances and decisions to suspend or refuse licenses," Barnett said

He said since the QRIC commenced in July last year Mr Ashby had finalised 86 internal reviews and altered the outcome on penalty or decision in 26 cases.

The Internal Review process replaced the Racing Disciplinary Board (RDB) which managed appeals between 2013 and 2016.

"We are fortunate to have a reviewer of Mr Ashby's calibre, experience and industry diversity filling this important role in Queensland," Barnett said.
