Independent review of Eagle Farm track

Monday 5 June 2017, 5:10pm

Experienced racing administrator Dale Monteith will conduct an independent review of the controversial Eagle Farm track which has been closed indefinitely.

Acting on a direction from the state's racing minister Grace Grace, Racing Queensland said it had appointed former Victoria Racing Club chief executive Monteith to ensure best practice strategies are employed moving forward.

Grace has written to RQ and directed the board to take all necessary steps to ensure the Eagle Farm track is rectified and made fit for purpose as an immediate priority.

The Brisbane winter carnival was thrown into disarray when Eagle Farm was abandoned as a venue after the Kingsford Smith Cup meeting following complaints from jockeys and trainers.

The next three Group One meetings were transferred to Doomben.

RQ said the scope of the review would be to consider the construction and preparation of the track with a very clear focus on identifying the best remediation strategies for the racing surface..

Monteith, who has 37 years experience in the racing industry, will provide an objective report into the design, construction and maintenance of the Eagle Farm track.
