Hutchings suspended after breakthrough win

Saturday 6 May 2017, 5:40pm

Rory Hutchings' first win for the Godolphin stable has drawn a suspension after he pleaded guilty to careless riding following the card-opener at Rosehill.

The New Zealand jockey was suspended for five meetings - downgraded from seven after his plea and disciplinary record were taken into account - after admitting his ride on Viridine impeded Manipulate (Josh Parr) about the 300m mark of the two-year-old handicap (1100m).

Viridine scored by a nose following a photo finish with Envy Of All, while Manipulate dead-heated with Madame Moustache in sixth.

Hutchings was riding at his first Saturday meeting in Sydney since November and rode his first winner for Godolphin, having previously worked for the stable as an apprentice.

Hutchings said he would not appeal the suspension, which starts on Sunday and leaves him free to ride on May 14.
