Sadler to get spring guide on Freeze Over

Friday 5 May 2017, 5:37pm

Talented filly Freeze Over had an excuse out of her last-start defeat in Adelaide and trainer John Sadler is hoping to see her bounce back to her best at Flemington.

Freeze Over won stylishly on debut at Sandown in late March over 1000m, earning the two-year-old filly a crack at the Listed Dequetteville Stakes (1050m) in Adelaide 10 days later.

She started odds-on favourite at Morphettville but finished fifth and a post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly was tying up in the hindquarters.

"She tied-up badly," Sadler said.

"Jake (Noonan) thought it was shin soreness because he felt she was very ordinary in her action from the 200 metre mark on, and was terrible the further he went.

"It was not long after he unsaddled her that she found it difficult to even walk."

Sadler said it was not uncommon for horses to 'tie-up'.

"But it happens more so at home, not so often at the races," he said.

"I think it's the first horse I've had tie-up at the races, or that I've known to have tied-up. To the eye you don't see it and you only find out with a blood count and their muscle enzymes."

He said the filly hadn't shown signs of it before and he is hoping it won't happen again.

Sadler has changed a few things around and pressed on to Saturday's Phar Lap Club Plate (1100m) at Flemington.

"She seems good and her blood test was fine, so we'll keep our fingers crossed," he said.

"If we see the best of her tomorrow, I think we'll see a pretty smart filly."

He said Freeze Over was likely to have a break after Saturday with her performance to give him a better guide to her spring targets.
