Grey Street gives McArdle some consolation

Saturday 29 April 2017, 5:00pm

Trainer John McArdle has received some consolation for the defeat of two-year-old Doubt I'm Dreaming with Grey Street's victory at Caulfield.

Doubt I'm Dreaming was looked on as Saturday's bet of the day and sent out the $1.55 favourite in the Listed Thoroughbred Club Cup.

But the colt could only manage third place behind Kobayashi in the 1200m race for two-year-olds.

McArdle fared better in the LU Simon Builders Handicap when Grey Street, backed from $4 to $3.50, toppled the $2.50 favourite Miss Vista by a length.

He said Grey Street appreciated the give in the surface although the track was upgraded from soft to the good range during the meeting.

"Getting her toe in the ground certainly helped," McArdle said.

"She loves a bit of sting out of it."

Now McArdle has to sway part-owner Terry Martin to his way of thinking on Grey Street's next start.

"If I get my way she'll go to Adelaide in three weeks but if Terry gets his way she'll come back here in two weeks time," McArdle said.

"Hopefully I'll get my way."

Meanwhile McArdle indicated Doubt I'm Dreaming was heading for a spell but is confident the two-year-old will bounce back in the spring.

Doubt I'm Dreaming recorded a stunning debut win at Moonee Valley on March 24 which prompted the heavy support on Saturday.

"Five weeks between runs for a two-year-old is probably tough but he'll have a nice break now," he said.
