Schedule claims Highway Hcp at Randwick

Saturday 22 April 2017, 3:00pm

Schedule has maintained his record of placing in every start in winning the Highway Handicap at Randwick.

Benefiting from Kerrin McEvoy following the route of previous winners at Randwick on Saturday by heading down the middle of the track, Schedule ($5) improved from seventh at the 400m to record the third win of his six-race career.

The Philip Courtney-trained Dyfield ($21) claimed second by a nose from Not For Export ($13).

Trainer Mack Griffin did not make the trip from Mudgee to see Schedule make his city debut, leaving McEvoy to offer his first impressions.

"This horse has been running well and since I've seen him in the yard I thought he's ready to run well again," he said.

"He looked great, felt great going to the start and just needed to be a bit canny from the gate (11).

"That ended up working out in our favour I could just go easy through the first part, then build into a nice spot before the corner and he was too strong for them."

McEvoy thought Schedule, who won his previous start in Scone on March 26 before being freshened, might warrant further exposure to the metropolitan tracks.

"He's better than just your normal highway horse ... he's open to improving maybe over a little bit further as well so there's options for him in the coming months."
