Dreams Aplenty sticks to Guineas

Thursday 6 April 2017, 1:13pm

Dreams APlenty will be kept three-year-old company during the Brisbane winter after failing to make the field for the Weetwood Handicap at Toowoomba.

Trainer John Zielke was keen to run Dreams Aplenty in Saturday's Listed Weetwood (1200m), an open handicap, after the gelding won two recent restricted class sprints.

But Zielke didn't bother nominating Dreams Aplenty after realising there would be more than 40 entries and the gelding would be near bottom on the list of qualifiers.

Instead he will run Dreams APlenty in the Toowoomba Guineas (1625m).

"I believe Dreams APlenty is up to open company and better. But he wouldn't have got a run so I always had the Guineas in the back of my mind," Zielke said.

"He is trained at Toowoomba now and he seems to like working here up the hill. It can be tricky track for a horse having his first start on it but I am confident he will handle it."

Zielke said Dreams Aplenty would be kept to his own age group during the winter.

"At this stage he will be kept to races around the 1600 metre-mark. The Sunshine Coast Guineas is one obvious target," he said.

Zielke will also have a strong hand in the Two-Year-Old (1000m) with Ruby Red Heart who was a brilliant winner at her first start and then an unlucky third at Doomben at her next.

"We are looking at better things for her in the winter," Zielke said.

"I have always thought she would get out to 1600 metres as well and Saturday should be just the start."
